Female sex workers FSWs were recruited from known hotspots in Kigali, Rwanda, and offered free, anonymous human immunodeficiency virus HIV counseling and testing, diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections STIs and long-acting reversible contraception LARC. Only one-third reported consistent condom use in the last month. Worldwide, women who exchange sex for money are at high risk of human immunodeficiency virus HIV , sexually transmitted infections STIs , and unplanned pregnancy, but are often less likely to seek HIV testing due to transportation costs, time constraints, and the stigma and discrimination associated with sex work and being HIV-positive. As in other countries in sub-Saharan Africa, the majority of new HIV infections in Rwanda are the result of heterosexual transmission in the adult population.
